What We Do
ASUMC is Committed to
Improving Our Community Through Faith, Advocacy, and Involvement
Arch Street United Methodist Church hosts and supports groups and initiatives that benefit the Philadelphia community. We offer sanctuary to those in need, while providing a space for needed community improvement programs through The Center Philadelphia.
We are a faith-based community that is radically inclusive. We believe everyone should feel loved and supported in their community and spirituality. Every event, activity, and worship we host or support adheres to that guiding principle.

Why We’re Involved
Unfair immigration policies and deportation practices have torn families apart in communities throughout Philadelphia. Arch Street United Methodist Church works in partnership with New Sanctuary Movement (NSM) of Philadelphia (SanctuaryPhiladelphia.org) as part of an interfaith, multicultural immigrant rights organization working to build alliances across faith, ethnicity, and class in order to give voice to immigration injustices, and to enact policies that reflect our values of hospitality, justice and dignity. We accompany people who are facing deportation and hold workshops to provide information about rights.
In the past, NSM worked successfully to make Philadelphia a Sanctuary City. Now NSM is working to make Driver’s Licenses available to all, regardless of immigration status. We are working to stop the deportation raids.
We are working to ensure all our immigrant members know what to do in case of a raid and we have organized teams to take action when we learn of a raid. NSM has an emergency hotline to call if you see an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency) raid taking place.
How to Get Involved
New Sanctuary Movement holds a General Assembly every other month to provide information about our campaigns and to make plans to implement our goals. Please contact Margaret Harris (margaretharris@me.com or 215-568-2206) for more information or if you would like to be involved in this work for immigrant justice.

Welcome to the POWER Program
Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower, and Rebuild (POWER)

Arch Street United Methodist Church works with over 40 faith communities (churches, parishes, synagogues and mosques) as part of Philadelphians Organized to Witness Empower and Rebuild (POWER).
